Urban Gorillaz
One of Europe’s largest and media focused submission grappling
events.
Urban Gorillaz has a mission to encourage greater inter-European participation within the grappling arts.
Its aim is to build European grappling to the standard of the US
and Brazil through it's tournament circuit.
Urban Gorillaz tournaments are unique in that they bring
closer together many different types of grappling arts, including Judo,
Jiujitsu, Wrestling ... indeed anyone interested in ground work competition
- as long as they abide by the same rules.
Urban Gorillaz is for professional and amateur alike. With a broader
appeal for the spectator, focusing more take down action and submission
skill.
There are four categories based on experience. These are:
Advanced, for those who are experienced enough (3 years plus) and for those who want to mix it up at a higher level along with some of the full time athletes.
Intermediate, for those who have 1-2 years experience, but are not on the level of the professionals.
and finally ...
Novice for those with experience 1 year and under. |
Gracie Invitational
Europe’s 2nd largest Brazilian Jiu Jitsu tournament with a doubling of competitors every year.
Gracie Invitational - wants to encourage the competitive nature between teams not clubs. As with Urban Gorillaz it aims to encourage a greater European participation, not just UK. Unification through inter country representation not divided through club alliance.
Gracie Invitational - is so called so as to keep it’s Brazilian
Jiu Jitsu Roots roots clear for everyone taking part and involved
with the growth of the sport worldwide. Every year there is always
one major Gracie family representative in attendance. Past years it
has been Royce Gracie from the famed Ulimate Fighting Championships
and Roger Gracie 6 time Brazilian Jiu Jitsu World Champion and current
ADCC Submission Wrestling World Championship heavy and absolute weight
champion.
Gracie Invitational - wants to encourage the best of the best.
Gracie Invitational - is an ‘open’ tournament and is one of the few tournaments in Europe that caters to high level belts. This in turn attracts participation from competitors from outside of Europe.
Gracie Invitational - is now under new management introducing for the first time incentive prizes to competitors and a dedicated marketing team supporting the event.
Cheeky Monkeez
Introducing a new category - Cheeky Monkeez for grapplers aged between
8 and 14.
Cheeky Monkeez. With much sport being taken out of schools martial
arts has become strong in bringing back qualities that have been lost.
Discipline and responsibility are key to being a good team competitor.
Fun is of course not forgotten, after all grappling and submission grappling
is ‘the’ natural fighting art ....having it’s roots
in every day kids rough and tumble!
The European Fight Nertwork is helping to keep grappling safe and
making it grow.

Gi tournaments are characterised Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) which is a sophisticated extension of pre-1925 Kodokan Judo (known then as ju-jitsu). It arrived in Brazil when Mitsuyo Maeda first brought it with him during his visit to Brazil with the hopes of establishing a Japanese colony/community in the country. It was further developed by the Gracie family during the mid-20th century. Brazilian jiu-jitsu has a focus on ground fighting and ground grappling. In addition, like Judo, Brazilian jiu-jitsu encourages "randori" or free sparring against a live, resisting opponent. Thus, students have an opportunity to test their skills and develop them under realistic conditions, with minimal risk of injury.

No gi tournaments are characterised by submission wrestling (also called submission grappling or submission fighting). This is a general term describing martial arts that focus on grappling to effect a submission (admission of loss) usually by means of chokes, joint locks, and other manipulations of the opponent's body. Examples include judo, sambo, jiu jitsu, Brazilian jiu jitsu, Shooto modified wrestling, and many other grappling arts.
